Ingredients

For the Blackberry Syrup

  • 6 oz fresh blackberries
  • ½ cup water
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar

For the Limeade

  • 2 cups fresh lime juice (from 8 to 10 large limes)
  • 4 cups cold water (or to taste)
  • 1 lime, thinly sliced (for garnish)
  • Additional blackberries (for garnish)

Instructions

Make the Blackberry Syrup

  1. In a saucepan, combine blackberries, water, and sugar. Bring to a boil and let it boil for 2 minutes.
  2. Remove from heat and let it cool for 10 minutes.
  3. Strain the mixture through a fine mesh sieve, discarding the seeds and pulp. You should have approximately 1¾ cups of syrup.
  4. Refrigerate until fully chilled.

Make the Limeade

  1. In a large pitcher, combine the chilled blackberry syrup and fresh lime juice.
  2. Add 4 cups of cold water, or adjust to taste for desired sweetness and strength.
  3. Stir well and serve over ice. Garnish with lime slices and extra blackberries, if desired.

Tips

  • Juice fresh limes: For best flavor, use freshly squeezed lime juice rather than bottled.
  • Adjust sweetness: Add more water if you prefer a lighter, less sweet drink.
  • Chill before serving: For the most refreshing result, refrigerate the limeade before serving.

Variations and Substitutions

  • Use sparkling water: For a fizzy version, substitute some or all of the water with sparkling water or club soda.
  • Swap the fruit: Substitute blackberries with raspberries, blueberries, or strawberries for a different flavor.
  • Make it a cocktail: Add vodka, tequila, or rum for an easy fruity cocktail.
