Crispy Breaded Chicken Skewers are an easy, family-friendly dinner or party appetizer made with tender chicken breast, seasoned breadcrumbs, and simple pantry ingredients. This quick pan-fried recipe is perfect for weeknight meals, meal prep, or game day. Marinated in mayo for added moisture and flavor, these homemade chicken skewers are golden on the outside and juicy on the inside—great for kids and adults alike.

Crispy, juicy chicken skewers coated in flavorful breadcrumbs—perfect for an easy dinner, party appetizer, or kid-friendly meal.

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs boneless, skinless chicken breast
  • ¾ cup mayonnaise*
  • 1 cup Italian-style breadcrumbs
  • 1 tsp Mrs. Dash seasoning blend
  • 1 tsp fine sea salt
  • ½ tsp freshly ground black pepper
  • Extra light olive oil or canola oil, for frying
  • 12 small wooden skewers

*You can substitute with plain Greek yogurt or a mix of mayo and sour cream.

Instructions

  1. Prep the Chicken
Cut chicken breasts into strips about ¾-inch wide. Place in a large bowl and season with salt, pepper, and Mrs. Dash. Add the mayonnaise and mix until the chicken is fully coated. Cover and marinate in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour, or overnight for deeper flavor.
  2. Skewer the Chicken
Thread the marinated chicken onto the wooden skewers. Try to align the flat sides of the chicken pieces in the same direction to ensure even browning.
  3. Coat with Breadcrumbs
Spread breadcrumbs on a large plate. Roll each skewer in the breadcrumbs, pressing lightly so the coating sticks well.
  4. Pan-Fry the Skewers
Heat a generous layer of oil in a large nonstick skillet over medium heat. Once hot, add the chicken skewers in batches. Cook for about 3 minutes per side, or until golden brown and the internal temperature reaches 165°F.
  5. Serve
Transfer the cooked skewers to a paper towel-lined plate to drain any excess oil. Serve warm.

Tips

  • Soak wooden skewers in water for 30 minutes before using to prevent burning during cooking.
  • Use tongs to turn the skewers gently without losing the breadcrumb coating.
  • Don’t overcrowd the pan—cook in batches if needed for even browning.

Variations and Substitutions

  • Protein Swap: Use chicken thighs for a juicier alternative.
  • Seasoning Options: Try Cajun seasoning, garlic powder, or paprika in place of Mrs. Dash.
  • Oven-Baked Version: Bake at 425°F on a parchment-lined baking sheet for 20–25 minutes, flipping halfway.
  • Air Fryer Method: Cook at 400°F for 12–15 minutes, turning halfway through.

FAQs

Can I prepare these in advance?
