Tips

  • For best flavor, marinate closer to 4 hours, especially for lean cuts like flank steak.
  • Pat off excess marinade before grilling to avoid flare-ups.
  • Slice against the grain for the most tender texture.

Variations and Substitutions

  • Swap brown sugar with honey or maple syrup for a slightly different sweetness.
  • Add minced garlic or a splash of soy sauce for extra depth.
  • Use a grill pan or cast-iron skillet if grilling outdoors isn’t an option.

FAQs

Can I marinate overnight?
Yes, but limit it to 8 hours to prevent the meat from becoming overly soft.

Which cut works best?
Flank and flat iron absorb marinades well, while ribeye and strip offer more natural tenderness.

Can I cook this indoors?
Yes, sear the steak in a hot skillet and finish to your desired doneness.
