Easy Grilled Pizza

Last Modified: October 28, 2025

Easy Grilled Pizza brings restaurant-quality flavor to your backyard with a crispy, smoky crust and melted cheese. This simple recipe uses pizza dough, your choice of sauce, and favorite toppings for a customizable grilled pizza experience. Perfect for quick weeknight dinners, family gatherings, or summer cookouts, it delivers a golden, flavorful crust and perfectly cooked toppings every time.

Ingredients

  • Pizza dough (homemade or store-bought; my recipe makes 2 large pizzas)
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • Pizza sauce (any type: tomato, white garlic, BBQ, or Alfredo)
  • Desired toppings: cheese, pepperoni, meats, vegetables, etc.

Instructions

  1. Preheat and clean the grill, brushing it with oil to prevent sticking. Heat to 425°F (medium-high).
  2. Divide the dough into 5–8 portions, depending on desired pizza size and thickness. Roll or stretch each portion and place on parchment paper.
  3. Brush the top of the dough with olive oil. Carefully flip the dough onto the grill, oil side down, and peel off the parchment paper.
  4. Cover and grill for 2–3 minutes. Check the bottom for grill marks and a golden-brown color.
  5. Remove pizzas from the grill, add sauce and toppings to the cooked side.
  6. Reduce grill heat slightly and return pizzas to the grill for 3–5 minutes, until cheese melts and the bottom crust is golden. Serve hot.

Tips

  • Use a pizza peel or spatula to handle the dough easily on the grill.
  • Brush the grill grates with oil for crispier crust and to prevent sticking.
  • Cover the grill with a lid to help melt the cheese evenly.

Variations and Substitutions

  • Substitute pizza sauce with pesto, hummus, or olive oil and garlic for a different flavor.
  • Use gluten-free or whole wheat dough for dietary preferences.
  • Try different cheeses like mozzarella, cheddar, or provolone.
