A golden, buttery cobbler baked with sweet, juicy peaches and a hint of cinnamon—perfect for summer gatherings or a cozy dessert year-round.

Ingredients

For the peaches:

  • 5 peaches, peeled, cored, and sliced (about 4 cups / 600–700 g)
  • 3/4 cup (150 g) granulated sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

For the batter:

  • 6 tablespoons (85 g) butter
  • 1 cup (120 g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup (200 g) granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup (180 ml) milk
  • Ground cinnamon, for sprinkling

Instructions

  1. Prepare the peaches
In a medium saucepan, combine peaches, sugar, and salt. Cook over medium heat for a few minutes until the sugar dissolves and the peaches release their juices. Remove from heat and set aside.
If using canned peaches, skip this step and proceed to Step 3.
  2. Preheat and melt butter
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Place butter in a 9×13-inch baking dish and place in the oven to melt. Remove the dish once the butter has melted.
  3. Make the batter
In a mixing bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Stir in the milk until just combined—do not overmix.
  4. Assemble the cobbler
Pour the batter into the baking dish over the melted butter and spread evenly. Spoon peaches and their juices evenly over the batter. Sprinkle generously with cinnamon.
  5. Bake
Bake for 38–40 minutes, or until golden and cooked through.
  6. Serve
Serve warm, plain or with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Tips

  • For easier peeling, blanch fresh peaches in boiling water for 30 seconds, then transfer to ice water.
  • Use ripe, juicy peaches for the best flavor and texture.
  • Don’t stir the batter and peaches together—layering helps create the cobbler’s distinct texture.
  • Serve shortly after baking for the freshest taste.

Variations and Substitutions

  • Fruit swap: Replace peaches with nectarines, berries, or apples.
  • Spice boost: Add nutmeg or ginger along with the cinnamon.
  • Healthier twist: Use half whole wheat flour and reduce sugar slightly.
  • Gluten-free: Substitute a gluten-free all-purpose flour blend.

FAQs

Can I use frozen peaches?
Yes—thaw and drain excess liquid before cooking with sugar.

Can peach cobbler be made ahead?
Yes—bake and refrigerate, then reheat in the oven before serving.

Why is my cobbler soggy?
Too much liquid from the fruit can cause sogginess; drain excess juice before adding if needed.
