Ingredients

  • 4 cups penne pasta
  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 1/2 lb pork sausage
  • 4 oz pepperoni, sliced or quartered
  • 1/2 green bell pepper, chopped
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 1/2 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can sliced mushrooms (optional)
  • 1 small can sliced black olives, drained
  • 24 oz marinara sauce or pizza sauce
  • 1–2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

Instructions

  1. Cook the penne pasta according to package directions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef and sausage until fully cooked. Drain excess fat.
  3. Transfer the cooked meat to a large mixing bowl. Add the pepperoni, bell pepper, onion, Parmesan cheese, oregano, garlic, mushrooms, and black olives.
  4. Add the cooked pasta and marinara sauce, then toss until everything is evenly coated.
  5. Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  6. Pour the mixture into the prepared dish and spread evenly.
  7. Sprinkle mozzarella cheese generously over the top.
  8. Bake for 25–35 minutes, or until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and lightly golden. Let rest a few minutes before serving.

Tips

  • Cook the pasta just until al dente to avoid a soft casserole after baking.
  • Drain meats well to prevent excess grease.
  • Let the casserole rest 5 minutes before serving for easier slicing.

Variations and Substitutions

  • Use rotini or ziti instead of penne.
  • Swap ground beef for ground turkey or chicken.
  • Add cooked bacon, ham, or Italian sausage for extra flavor.
  • Use a blend of mozzarella and provolone for a cheesier topping.
