Strawberry Lemonade

Last Modified: October 15, 2025

This Strawberry Lemonade recipe is a refreshing summer drink made with fresh strawberries, lemon juice, and homemade simple syrup. Perfectly balanced between sweet and tart, it’s ideal for picnics, barbecues, and hot days. Easy to prepare and naturally vibrant, this homemade lemonade is a family favorite that highlights the fresh flavor of real fruit.

Ingredients

  • ½ pound fresh strawberries, stems removed
  • 1½ cups granulated sugar
  • 4½–5 cups water, divided
  • 1½ cups freshly squeezed lemon juice

Instructions

  1. Prepare the strawberries
Add the strawberries to a blender or food processor and puree until smooth. For a smoother texture, strain through a fine-mesh sieve to remove seeds.
  2. Make the simple syrup
In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine the sugar and 2 cups of water. Bring to a boil, stirring until the sugar dissolves completely. Remove from heat and allow to cool to room temperature.
  3. Combine ingredients
Strain the lemon juice into a 2-quart pitcher to remove pulp or seeds. Add the cooled simple syrup and strawberry puree, then stir well to mix.
  4. Add water and chill
Pour in about 2½ cups of cold water and stir. Taste and adjust with more water if the lemonade is too sweet or strong. Refrigerate until cold.
  5. Serve
Pour over ice and serve chilled. Garnish with lemon slices or fresh strawberry halves if desired.

Tips

  • Use ripe, sweet strawberries for the best natural flavor and color.
  • Freshly squeezed lemon juice gives a brighter, fresher taste than bottled juice.
  • Chill the simple syrup before mixing to keep the lemonade cool and refreshing.
  • For sparkling lemonade, replace some of the water with sparkling water or club soda before serving.

Variations and Substitutions

  • Sweetener: Replace sugar with honey, agave syrup, or a low-calorie sweetener for a lighter option.
  • Fruit: Try substituting strawberries with raspberries, blueberries, or watermelon for a twist.
  • Herbs: Add fresh mint or basil leaves for an aromatic touch.
  • Frozen version: Blend the lemonade with ice for a slushy-style drink.
