Ingredients

For the Dip:

  • 8 oz feta cheese (block, cold, drained and crumbled)
  • 4 oz cream cheese, cold
  • 1/2 cup thick sour cream, cold
  • 2 Tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp fresh lemon juice (zest the lemon before juicing)
  • 1 garlic clove, minced or pressed
  • 1/4 tsp fine sea salt, plus more to taste

Toppings:

  • 1–2 Tbsp extra virgin olive oil (for drizzling)
  • Lemon zest (from 1 lemon)
  • Fresh parsley, finely chopped
  • Crushed red pepper flakes
  • Freshly ground black pepper

For Serving:

  • Pita bread or pita chips
  • Fresh vegetables (such as cucumber, radish, bell pepper, or cherry tomatoes)

Instructions

  1. Add the feta, cream cheese, sour cream, olive oil, lemon juice, garlic, and salt to the bowl of a food processor.
  2. Blend on high for 3–4 minutes until completely smooth and creamy, scraping down the sides of the bowl as needed.
  3. Transfer to a shallow bowl. Use the back of a spoon to swirl the surface and create texture.
  4. Drizzle generously with olive oil, then top with lemon zest, parsley, red pepper flakes, and freshly ground black pepper.
  5. Serve immediately with your favorite dippers, or cover and refrigerate until ready to use.

Tips

  • Use a block of feta, not pre-crumbled, for the best texture and flavor.
  • Make sure all ingredients are cold to keep the dip thick and fresh.
  • Blend long enough to get a completely smooth consistency—don’t rush it.
  • Use full-fat sour cream and cream cheese for a richer taste.

Variations and Substitutions

  • Greek Yogurt: Replace sour cream with Greek yogurt for a tangier, lighter dip.
  • Herbs: Mix in fresh dill, basil, or mint for extra flavor.
  • Heat: Add a small amount of chili paste or more red pepper flakes for a spicier version.
  • Cheese: For a milder dip, mix in a bit of ricotta or goat cheese with the feta.

FAQs

Can I make this dip ahead of time?
Yes, it stores well. Prepare it up to 2 days in advance and refrigerate in an airtight container.

How long does whipped feta dip last?
It stays fresh for 3–4 days in the fridge. Stir before serving if it separates slightly.

Can I use a blender instead of a food processor?
Yes, a high-speed blender will also work, but you may need to stop and scrape the sides more often.

  • Spread it on sandwiches or wraps for extra flavor.
  • Serve with crackers, warm naan, or crusty bread.
  • Use as a dip for roasted vegetables or grilled meats.
