  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon chili powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon dried cilantro
  • ½ egg (whisk one egg and use half; double the recipe to use the whole egg)
  • 1½ tablespoons almond flour
  • 1 teaspoon olive oil
  • ½ lime, juiced

For the Toppings:

  • Pico de gallo
  • Jalapeño avocado lime aioli
  • Bacon
  • Cheese
  • Lettuce
  • Jalapeños

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Grill:
    Set your grill to 375-400°F.
  2. Prepare the Burger Patties:
    • In a small bowl, mix together cumin, smoked paprika, garlic powder, chili powder, salt, and dried cilantro.
    • In a large bowl, combine ground chicken, almond flour, half an egg, lime juice, onion, jalapeño, and the spice mixture.
    • Using your hands (you can wear gloves), mix the ingredients thoroughly until well combined.
    • Divide the mixture into 4 evenly sized patties. Make a small indent in the center of each patty using your thumb or a spoon.
  3. Grill the Burgers:
    • Once the grill has reached the desired temperature, place the patties on the grill.
    • Using a pastry brush, lightly brush olive oil on top of the patties.
    • Close the grill and cook for 5 minutes on the first side.
    • Flip the patties and brush the other side with olive oil.
    • Close the grill and cook for an additional 4-5 minutes, or until the burgers reach an internal temperature of 165°F.
  4. Serve:
    • Once cooked, remove the chicken burgers from the grill. Let them rest for a moment, and then brush any released juices back over the patties with your pastry brush.
    • Serve the burgers with your choice of toppings, such as pico de gallo, jalapeño avocado lime aioli, bacon, cheese, lettuce, and extra jalapeños.

Tips

  • Grill Temperature: Ensure your grill is at the correct temperature for even cooking. If it’s too hot, the burgers may cook too quickly on the outside while staying raw inside.
  • Resting the Patties: Allow the chicken patties to rest after grilling to retain their juices.
  • Egg Size: If you double the recipe, use the full egg for consistency in the mixture.

Variations and Substitutions

  • Toppings: Customize with your favorite toppings like tomato, pickles, or grilled onions.
  • Spices: Add more chili powder or cayenne for a spicier kick.
  • Dairy-Free Option: Use dairy-free cheese or skip cheese altogether for a lighter burger.
  • Low-Carb: Serve the chicken patties on lettuce wraps instead of buns for a low-carb option.

FAQs

Can I make these burgers ahead of time?
Yes, you can prepare the patties in advance and refrigerate them for up to a day before grilling.

Can I bake the chicken burgers instead of grilling?
Yes, you can bake them at 375°F for 20-25 minutes, flipping halfway through, until they reach an internal temperature of 165°F.

Can I freeze the patties?
Yes, you can freeze the uncooked patties for up to 2 months. Just thaw in the fridge before grilling.

Serving Suggestions

  • Serve the burgers with a side of roasted vegetables or a fresh salad.
